Michael Heston
Michael leads ALG's strategy, operations, and product vision. Over more than 20 years in online education, his work has spanned platform development, learner experience, digital growth, brand strategy, team leadership, and project execution. At ALG, he brings those disciplines together to build practical, well-crafted learning products centered on the needs of customers and learners.
Jeff Thompson
Jeff leads ALG's technology strategy, architecture, and software development. With more than 25 years of experience, his expertise includes application development, server administration, database management, and platform security. He is responsible for ensuring ALG's systems are reliable, secure, responsive, and ready to scale.
Brian Boatright
Brian leads ALG's financial strategy, planning, and business partnerships. With more than 20 years of experience in online continuing education, he previously helped build and grow a continuing education platform that served more than one million healthcare professionals. As CFO, he applies that operating experience to ALG's financial management, growth strategy, and partner relationships.

Applied Learning Group develops its course offerings in partnership with credentialed subject matter experts and experienced CE authors. Our role is to ensure that content is accurately presented, thoughtfully designed, and meets the requirements of the accrediting bodies under which courses are submitted. We seek authors who share our commitment to educational quality and instructional rigor.
Adrianne E. Avillion, D.Ed., RN
Dr. Avillion is a nationally recognized expert in continuing education for healthcare professionals, with more than 30 years of experience in curriculum design, adult education, and healthcare writing. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing and a Doctorate in Adult Education from Penn State University, and has developed CE content for numerous leading healthcare education organizations. Dr. Avillion is a frequent speaker at professional development conferences on a national level.
Maureen Spencer, M.Ed., BSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC
Maureen Spencer is a board-certified infection preventionist with more than four decades in the field. She has led infection prevention programs at Massachusetts General Hospital, New England Baptist Hospital, and Universal Health Services, and now works as an independent consultant. She has written more than 55 peer-reviewed articles on healthcare-associated infections and co-authored chapters in Hospital Infections (7th ed.). She created the 7 S Bundle program for preventing surgical site infections and has taught on four continents. Her honors include being named a Fellow of APIC and receiving APIC's Carole DeMille Award.

Peter Graves is a perioperative nurse consultant with more than three decades of nursing experience. He specializes in preventing surgical infections and in evidence-based education. He spent seven years on AORN's Recommended Practices committee, where he was lead author on several guidelines. He was also elected to AORN's national board of directors, and he now reviews for the AORN Journal. He has written peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters and has presented at conferences around the world, including 21 times at AORN's national conference. He is a founding director of the CCI Research Foundation and received CCI's Excellence in Volunteerism Award in 2024.
